I can’t speak ill of Nigeria – Gebi clears air on intelligence to embassies Former lawmaker and security governance expert, Aliyu Ibrahim Gebi, has strongly denied allegations linking him to the provision of false intelligence to foreign embassies, insisting that his actions have always been guided by national interest and patriotism. Mr Gebi, a lawmaker in the 7th House of Representatives, was reportedly arrested by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) on Friday, 03 April, on the allegations of providing “false intelligence” to embassies in Nigeria. In a detailed response on Friday, Gebi rejected claims that his engagements influenced international security decisions, describing such reports as misleading and lacking proper context. “I will never speak ill of Nigeria, its President, or heads of security agencies,” he said, adding that attempts to portray his contributions negatively were “painful and misrepresentative” of his record. EFCC drags suspect to court over alleged N4.3m rice deal fraud in Maiduguri The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, arraigned one Abdullahi Aminu before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri over an alleged fraud involving N4.3 million. A statement issued by EFCC said the defendant was brought before the court on a one-count charge of criminal misappropriation involving the sum of N4,305,000.00 (Four Million, Three Hundred and Five Thousand Naira). The charge reads: “That you, Abdullahi Aminu sometimes in 2025 at Maiduguri, Borno State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court dishonestly convert to your own use the aggregate sum of N4,305,000.00 (Four Million, Three Hundred and Five Thousand Naira), monies belonging to Jibrin Abdulrahman purportedly as payment for the supply of rice, thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 296 and punishable under Section 297 of the Borno ...

 The Attorney General has approached the court seeking the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress, Accord Party, and three other political parties. The Attorney General of the Federation has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission to deregister five political parties, arguing that their continued existence breaches constitutional provisions and weakens the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system. In court filings, the Attorney General argued that without judicial intervention, the Independent National Electoral Commission would continue to act in violation of its constitutional responsibilities by retaining parties that have not met the minimum legal requirements. The submission emphasized that the right to form or belong to a political party is not absolute but subject to constitutional provisions.
