Aiyedatiwa targets 203,000 new APC members

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has unveiled plans to recruit no fewer than 203,000 new members into the All Progressives Congress across the state’s 203 wards ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the APC stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure on Friday, the governor said the initiative was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope programme, which he described as a grassroots-driven strategy to consolidate the party’s dominance.

“This is our party, and it is our collective responsibility to make it stronger. The Renewed Hope Initiative has been structured to build the party from the grassroots, and our target is nothing less than one thousand new members per ward,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He urged party members to prioritise unity and consistent mobilisation in their communities, stressing that regular stakeholders’ meetings were necessary to keep the APC informed and organised.

The governor also highlighted his administration’s development agenda, disclosing that the state had signed memoranda of understanding for the establishment of a cement factory, a fertiliser plant, and a petrochemical industry.

He added that efforts were ongoing to complete all inherited projects and to take over some federal roads, including the Ikare-Akoko, Idanre-Akure and Okitipupa-Igbokoda corridors.

Earlier, the state APC chairman, Ade Adetimehin, commended the governor for sustaining regular engagements with stakeholders, urging members to return to their wards and consolidate the party’s grassroots base.

There is no division in our party. The government and the party remain one. Unity and commitment at the grassroots are critical if we want to sustain our dominance,” Adetimehin said.

Also, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Victor Olabimtan, reaffirmed the party’s unity, saying APC members in his constituency were solidly behind the governor and the leadership.
